Troubleshooting Application Performance

When troubleshooting poor application performance you first want to classify your issue as either slow loading when initially launching the application or slow loading of forms once in the application.

Slow loading of the application upon initial launch.

If upon clicking your ServMan icon the logon screen appears quickly but then upon entering your user ID and password and attempting to login you notice that the software takes a very long time to log in.  Note the files opening at the bottom of the screen.  These should move very quickly, if they hang on a particular filename for an extended period of time please inform your IT support to add the required system registry modifications to the Server hosting the ServMan.exe application.

If the files at the bottom of the screen all load slowly you should check your virus scan configuration for BOTH the work station and file server making sure that the Servman directories are excluded per the Hardware Requirements Document.

If both of these prove to be properly configured contact your IT support team and have them evaluate your workstation, network and server performance.  Your systems and\or network may not meet the minimum requirements or you may be having other network issues.

Slow loading of all forms

Slow SQL server performance is typically represented by slow reads and writes, manifesting itself as long waits when saving orders, client records and other forms. Poor SQL performance should be reported to your SQL administrator for troubleshooting.  Refer to the SQL care and feeding document for recommended maintenance.

Slow loading of only certain forms

If only certain forms appear to be slow software adaptations should be reviewed.

Check Document Management Configuration. One of the most common issues is the ServMan Documents tab.  If your document management default folder locations point to an unknown or invalid location, any forms pointing to this path will have an extended delay when loading them as the software searches for an fails to locate the invalidly mapped location.

Check for custom tabs and other customizations: Your installation may have custom tabs that load data to a grid when a window opens; if there is a large amount of data this process may take some time; typically you will see the loading data message (yellow box) in the upper right; it may be possible to delay the data load until the specific tab is selected

Check for callbacks and business rules: There may be custom callbacks or business rules that run when the window is opened; check for callbacks on the window.  If your organization performs their own adaptations consult your programmer, dealer or support.

Slow loading of documents folder

Check the main Document folder - see if it is set it to optimize for Pictures.  If it is - switch the optimization option to either Documents or General.

ServMan application running slow

ServMan application running slow - check the folder settings on the APP folder to make sure it is not optimized for pictures.  If it is, change it to General.
